A wonderful and rare bird is the California Condor. I visited the Grand Canyon last weekend and to my surprise, saw these beautiful creatures here which are part of a reintroduction program. If you get the chance, drop by the Grand Canyon to view the California Condor.

Old Rag

View of Old Rag Mt. as seen from Pinnicles overlook in Shenandoah National Park. Taken the day after Hurricane Katrina’s remains passed over the park, thus clearing the normal haze. After getting a lot of comments on the color saturation I feel I should level with how this photo was taken. It was taken with a disposable camera and developed as any other film would be, with no alterations at all. It was just that beautiful of a scene. The flecks are a result of a scan and do not appear on the physical copy.

Gorgeous Mount Mitchell

Mount Mitchell

This is one of those rare days when Mount Mitchell isn’t socked in. That’s Catawba rhododendron in the foreground. Mount Mitchell is actually the highest point to the left in this photo of the Black Mountain ridge. It’s also the highest point in North America East of the Mississippi River. The ridge tapers off around Burnsville, North Carolina… beyond is Tennessee. In 1915, Mount Mitchell became North Carolina’s first State Park.

Mesa Verde: Balcony House

Balcony House

A post-sunset photograph as the last light reflects on Balcony House in Mesa Verde National Park. This is one of the amazing cliff dwellings of the ancestral Puebloan people in the SW corner of Colorado. The circular hole in front is a ceremonial Kiva pit. It was a fun tour requiring some climbing and narrow tunnels.

The fall color was mostly over, so I decided that I had time to visit this park…sure glad I did!

Moose is in the deer family. The same animal is called the Elk in Europe. The Elk is considered the national animal of Sweden and Norway. In both countries it is often, probably because of the crown-like shape of its antlers, referred to as "the King of the forest". European rock drawings and cave paintings reveal that the elk or moose has been hunted since the Stone Age.

Photo taken in Vassfaret Bjørnepark – Norway. Vassfaret is a forest valley between Hallingdal and Valdres. It is about 30 km long, with large lakes and rivers with remnants from the timber floating era. In Vassfaret Bjørnepark (Bear Park) there are 7 bears in an area of 40.000 sq. meters. As you can see there are mooses as well .
