A wonderful and rare bird is the California Condor. I visited the Grand Canyon last weekend and to my surprise, saw these beautiful creatures here which are part of a reintroduction program. If you get the chance, drop by the Grand Canyon to view the California Condor.

In contact with a young Elk

Sweet Valentines kisses from Moose 😉

Moose is in the deer family. The same animal is called the Elk in Europe. The Elk is considered the national animal of Sweden and Norway. In both countries it is often, probably because of the crown-like shape of its antlers, referred to as "the King of the forest". European rock drawings and cave paintings reveal that the elk or moose has been hunted since the Stone Age.

Photo taken in Vassfaret Bjørnepark – Norway. Vassfaret is a forest valley between Hallingdal and Valdres. It is about 30 km long, with large lakes and rivers with remnants from the timber floating era. In Vassfaret Bjørnepark (Bear Park) there are 7 bears in an area of 40.000 sq. meters. As you can see there are mooses as well 😉.

“Who will gainsay that the parks contain the highest potentialities of national pride, national contentment, and national health? A visit inspires love of country; begets contentment; engenders pride of possession; contains the antidote for national restlessness…. He is a better citizen with a keener appreciation of the privilege of living here who has toured the national parks.” -Stephen T. Mather

It has become more and more clear to California’s Governor and Legislature that closing California’s State Parks would cost more than keeping them open.

One very large issue is a legal one. If someone were hurt or killed on State Park property, even if it was closed and proper signs were put up, the state would be liable.

Here are a couple of other issues that have been brought to light. How do you fence such large tracts of land? How do you keep cannabis growers off these lands whose custodians have been laid off?

We are now being told that the closure list is shortening (Source). Bless you, Sacramento.

I would just as soon that someone burn the list completely.

I spent a number of years in Africa. And, some of the most pleasurable times I spent outside of my teaching assignments was observing wild game. There’s nothing like seeing a pride of dozens of lions up close or a pack of hyenas chasing wildebeests.

But you don’t have to go to Africa to observe wildlife. Take a look at this great article on wildlife that you can observe right here in the U.S. of A. Read the article and see photos.
